ASPEN AUTUMN

Groves of golden aspen trees signal of autumn in the Rocky Mountains. They are frequently called quaking aspens because their long flattened leafstalks make the leaves flutter easily in the breeze. Aspens can be found growing abouv 2,300 m (7,500 ft) elevation throughout the Rocky Mountains. Aspens are among the first plants  to colonize areas disturbed by avalanches, landslides, or fire. Morning light streams into the Aspen trees at Elk Mountain Ranch. This is the trail that leads to the horse corral that we walk to greet our horses each morning.
